International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the United Nations with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures, and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
That’s right, the U.N. thought the world was so fucked up in 2011 that we needed a day where everyone tried really hard to be nice to other people and show gratitude for the non-assholes in their lives. I think we’re due a new holiday more fitting of 2023. Maybe “International Stop Setting the Sky on Fire Day” or something?
